“Enjoying the experience of being with the animals comes first, and capturing a good image, that's a bonus.”

Ewan is a 34 year old wildlife photographer from Woking, Surrey. Since a 3 month trip to British Columbia in 2015, he has traded in an office job to enjoy and document the natural world, focusing largely on the species in and around his home, as well as further afield in the UK up in Scotland. For Ewan it’s all about enjoying the experience of being with animals, observing their natural behaviour, that comes first, and capturing a good image…that’s just a bonus. It’s something that can easily be forgotten sat behind a camera lens. The beauty is in taking a step back and appreciating what we’re witnessing.

Ewan’s ambitions are not just to take beautiful images, but in the future to play an active role in promoting ‘co-existence’. The idea that both humans and animals can live alongside each other in harmony, instead of conflict and displacement.

In 2020, Ewan won his first award in international competition Asferico, being Highly Commended for ‘Hareball’. An image of the very same hare he photographed on his trip a few years earlier. “Hareball” can be viewed above.
